Pope’s Speech Teaches, Reminds Me of Greater Purpose

By Published on September 25, 2015

I will start this post by saying this is the most you are ever going to hear me talk about my religion and my faith. I try to live it more than speak it. But there were three key pieces I really took to heart from Pope Francis as I watched him talk in person at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday.

(By the way, if any of you didn’t see the pope’s speech or want to read it in its entirety again, I was given a copy while I was in Washington D.C., and you can read it all here.)

  1. The Golden Rule –Treat people how you want to be treated. If you were down and out, and you were struggling, how would you want to be treated?
  2. Create opportunities –Create opportunities for others and you will create more opportunities for yourself. If you create a business, do so with the idea of “I’m going to create jobs, and in the end create a great product because I’m caring about my people.”
  3. We are all descendants of immigrants –Let’s not forget where we all came from. My grandparents came here through Ellis Island and could not speak a lick of English.
