Chairman Tears up in Opening Remarks on Planned Parenthood
The head of the House Oversight Committee began to tear up in the first minute of a hearing on Tuesday into Planned Parenthood’s federal funding.
Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) choked up as he discussed his wife’s career helping women get screened for cancer, recounting the deaths of both his parents to the disease.
“At the risk of getting a little personal,” he said, pausing during an emotional moment, swarmed by photographers.
“We don’t spend enough on cancer. We don’t spend enough. We need to spend more,” he said as he began to attack Planned Parenthood, which receives about a half-billion dollars in federal funding each year.
