Online Polls Confirm Hillary Dip

By Published on August 30, 2016

Republican nominee Donald Trump narrowed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s lead in the latest online NBC poll published Tuesday, confirming Trump’s Sunday numbers.

Clinton fell below the 50 percent mark, with 48 percent. Trump rose to 42 percent. Clinton enjoyed an 8 point lead in the NBC/Survey Monkey poll released last week. In a four-way race, Clinton’s lead shrinks to 4 points. Clinton earned 41 percent, Trump earned 37 percent, Libertarian Candidate Gary Johnson rose to 11 percent, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein maintained 5 percent.

Trump gained primarily with Independent voters. Clinton led the segment by 8 points last week, but this week, Trump only trailed the Democratic nominee by 4 points, 37 to 33 percent.

Clinton actually lost some support among Democrats, while Trump stayed even with last week’s poll.

Trump narrowed Clinton’s lead to 3 points in Sunday’s Morning Consult poll. The NBC poll surveys more people in an online format that critics say heavily favors young voters. Protractors argue that online surveys could better predict this particular race, because there is no perceived social stigma from selecting their true choice.

The NBC poll was conducted from Aug. 22 through Aug. 28, with a sample size of 14,104. The margin of error is +/- 1 percent.
