Obama Mocks Trump, Accuses Him of ‘Simple Solutions and Scapegoating’

President Obama mocked the idea of Donald Trump becoming president during an interview that aired hours before his final State of the Union address.

Asked by NBC’s Matt Lauer on the Today show if he could imagine the Republican presidential front-runner delivering the annual speech, Obama said, “Well I can imagine it in a Saturday night skit.”

Obama acknowledged the possibility is real, however, and urged voters not to be “complacent” this November.

“Look, anything’s possible,” he said during the interview, which aired Tuesday morning. “And I think we shouldn’t be complacent. I think everybody’s got to work hard.”

The president offered a preview of his final speech, in which he’s expected to deliver a rebuttal of Trump’s doom-and-gloom vision of America.
