Why Your New Year’s Resolutions Won’t Work, What Will, and What We Can Learn from Churches

Yesterday, I had the gym all to myself. Today, I’m not even going to attempt to go. I’ll probably work out at home for the next two weeks as countless people crowd the treadmills in an attempt to start strong with their New Year’s resolutions. But by mid January, I’ll have the gym to myself again.

Why? New Year’s resolutions just don’t stick. One study I read showed that only 8% of people who make resolutions succeed in keeping them. So how long do the resolutions last? Surprisingly, 75% of resolutions will be continued through the entire first week of January, but only about 46% make it past six months.
