Navy Yard Marks 2 Years Since Shootings with Memorial

By Published on September 16, 2015

Officials at the Washington Navy Yard will be holding a private memorial on the second anniversary of the shooting there that killed 12 people.

Washington Navy Yard spokesman Brian Sutton says the memorial Wednesday will be for people who work at the Navy Yard as well as families of the victims.

Sutton says the memorial will be brief and include a moment of silence.

Wednesday marks two years since the shooting, in which military contractor Aaron Alexis fatally shot 12 people inside Building 197. Alexis, who had just recently begun an assignment at the site, was shot and killed by officers.
