NASA’s New Horizons Gives Final Closeup of Pluto’s Puzzling Dark Spots

Pluto, the underdog of planetary science, finally gets its time in the spotlight this week. As the New Horizons spacecraft nears its historic rendezvous with the icy space object Tuesday morning, it is providing scientists and the public with the most detailed views of Pluto that we’ve ever seen.

NASA captured the following image on Saturday, which shows what Pluto looks like from just 2.5 million miles away from New Horizons. This may sound far away, but consider that the spacecraft is a whopping 3 billion miles from Earth.
