Moore Up in the Polls 9 Days Ahead of Alabama Election

By Published on December 3, 2017

Republican Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore is up in the polls roughly one week ahead of when voters are scheduled to cast their ballots.

RealClearPolitics’ polling average has Moore up 2.5 percentage points over Democrat Doug Jones. Alabama voters will head to the ballot box Dec. 12 to choose their replacement for current GOP Sen. Luther Strange — the man who replaced Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Moore lost a steadfast lead in the polls after The Washington Post reported a number sexual harassment allegations against him. The instances involved young women under the age of 18 and occurred while Moore was in his 30s.

The Republican candidate currently finds himself at odds with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republican leaders in the Senate.

GOP Sen. John Thune of South Dakota said in late November that he thinks President Donald Trump should use his influence to force Moore to step aside if he wins.

“If Moore wins and he comes into the Senate in January, there will immediately be an ethics investigation. It will be a cloud that he’ll be operating in, and it will be a distraction to our agenda,” Moore told Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday.

“The president can obviously speak for himself … but the alternative, as I said, is not good either. The president, to the degree he wants to use his influence in this race, could help everybody out to try and get Roy Moore to step aside,” he told Wallace.
