Ellsworth Honor Guardsmen practice live-firing party movements at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. The firing party ceremonial tradition dates back to the Civil War and consists of firing three rounds to symbolize the removal of fallen soldiers from the battlefield.

As our nation’s military community honors the six airmen who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan last week, we renew our thoughts and prayers for their families, friends and fellow troops. We will never forget.
