Military Photo of the Day: Nazi Germany Surrenders

By Tom Sileo Published on May 7, 2015

Seventy years ago today, Alfred Jodl, a Nazi military commander, formally surrendered to Allied Forces in Reims, France. The May 7, 1945, surrender of German forces marked the end of World War II in Europe.

This photo signifies one of the most important moments in the history of our planet. It occurred because millions of people, including countless Americans, stepped forward to serve and sacrifice to save the world from evil, darkness and peril. Today and every day, we honor the heroes of World War II.
