John Paul II Relic Draws Huge Crowds in Puerto Rico
In Puerto Rico, the figure of Pope John Paul II still spurs devotion 30 years after his visit to the island, and on Wednesday the official relic of the late pope is being exhibited here: a small quantity of his un-coagulated blood.
The founder of the order of the Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary – tasked with housing the relic – Mother Adela Galindo, said in an interview with EFE that the precious blood of St. John Paul II came to the Caribbean island “out of the love the Puerto Ricans always showed for the holy father.”
The relic, which on Tuesday arrived in Puerto Rico and on Wednesday will continue its tour of other destinations in the hemisphere, was exhibited for several hours at the Plaza Las Americas shopping mall in San Juan, on the esplanade where the pontiff celebrated Mass in October 1984.
