‘The Heavens are Telling the Glory of God . . .’

. . . and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.' (Psalm 19:1 RSV)

In a week filled with political shenanigans, ISIS militants and military heartache, it’s good to pause and, like the Psalmist,

… look at thy heavens,
the work of thy fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which thou hast established. (Psalm 8:3 RSV)

The awe-inspiring image above was posted Wednesday by the European Southern Observatory, an intergovernmental astronomy organization operating in the Atacama Desert region of Chile. According to The Washington Post, this is the most detailed image yet taken of a star cluster called NGC 6193. Follow this link to learn more about the cluster and the wonders found within.

Or breathe in another image from ESO — the Thor’s Helmet Nebula taken in 2012 — and meditate on the “glorious splendor of thy majesty and on thy wondrous works” (Psalm 145:5 RSV).
