Hallmark Panders to LGBT Community in New Valentine’s Day Ads

By Published on February 9, 2016

Hallmark is catering to the LGBT community this Valentine’s Day with a new series of video ads. The campaign called #CareEnough kicked off in mid-January and features, among others, a gay and a lesbian couple.

In the videos, six couples share how they met, then exchange a card and a kiss.

One of the couples is two gay men, Robin and Jason, with their young daughter. In their spot, Jason start by saying “I’ll always remember the day that we were officially pregnant.” “As two men,” Robin continues, “it’s a complicated, difficult process.” Put best by Katie Yoder with NewsBusters.org: “You don’t say.” Robin goes on, “To me, what’s happened between Jason and I is more than love. I feel like we’ve connected as a family.”

In another video, the lesbian couple LaParis and Karisia reflect on when they met in a club. LaParis remembers how she was “completely smitten” by Karisia. In response, Karisia says she just went for it, mentioning that she thinks LaParis put some kind of spell on her.

This is not the first time that Hallmark has marketed towards the LGBT community. The company also included a lesbian couple in their Valentine’s Day ads last year.

Valentine’s Day is this coming Sunday, February 14.
