Former Marine Colonel Running as Conservative Write-In Against Roy Moore

By Published on November 27, 2017

A former Marine colonel announced Monday he would be running as a conservative alternative to Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore.

Retired Marine Col. Lee Busby plans to run as a write-in candidate in an attempt to try and stop Moore, who faces multiple accusations of sexual misconduct with minors, from reaching the United States Senate, The Daily Beast reported.

“I have no idea if the allegations against him true or not, but I don’t see anything within his experience as a judge that qualifies him for the job,” Busby explained to The Daily Beast. “Alabama is not happy with the two choices we have down here. They are not appealing.”

Busby served in the Marine Corps for 31 years and was now-White House Chief of Staff John Kelly’s deputy chief of staff during his last tour of duty, he added to The Daily Beast.

Conservatives have begun abandoning Moore as various women have come forward to accuse the former judge of allegedly touching them inappropriately when they were still minors. Moore has denied the accusations and repeatedly threatened to sue The Washington Post, who first broke the news of the allegations.

President Donald Trump recently attacked Democrat Doug Jones, Moore’s opponent Sunday, but a White House official told The Associated Press that Trump would not be campaigning for him.
