Former TX Gov. Rick Perry’s Legal Fees Climb to $2.5 Million
AUSTIN β Former Gov. Rick Perry’s legal tab for a team of high-powered defense lawyers in his ongoing abuse-of-power case has grown to about $2.5 million, according documents made public Saturday.
Perry was indicted in August of 2014 on two felony counts related to his promise as governor to veto funding for the public integrity unit that was overseen by Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg unless she resigned after her drunken-driving incident. She served time but stayed in office, and Perry vetoed the funding, prompting a complaint that led to his indictment.
The former governor’s legal case has played out with high drama over the last year and a half, causing Perry to blame the indictment for casting a shadow over his failed run for the Republican nomination for president. It is now pending before Texas’ highest criminal court.
