Duck Dynasty Star Endorses Trump Days after Dad Backs Cruz

By Published on January 22, 2016

Willie Robertson, star of the “Duck Dynasty” television show, has endorsed Donald Trump for president the week after his father and co-star backed GOP rival Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas).

“Mr. Trump is a real leader. He represents success and strength, two attributes our country needs. Like me, he is a successful businessman and family man and I endorse his candidacy for President of the United States,” Robertson, who had previously endorsed another candidate, said in a statement issued by Trump’s campaign.

Trump said he was “truly honored” to receive Robertson’s endorsement, which was given at the Outdoor Sportsman Awards in Las Vegas on Thursday night.

Trump rolled out endorsements from 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and the daughter of John Wayne on Tuesday as he seeks to shore up support among conservatives while battling Cruz in Iowa.

Phil Robertson, Willie’s father and the patriarch of the show, endorsed Cruz last week in a highly produced video featuring the pair going duck hunting in Louisiana.

Willie Robertson had previously expressed interest in Trump, appearing on stage with him at the Oklahoma State Fair in September, before doubling down to support Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who dropped out of the race in November.
