Louisiana Deputy Delivers Prayer Instead of a Ticket

A typical traffic stop, at times, can be anything but typical. But one thing is constant, it requires at least two things — a violator and a law enforcer.

“So I really wasn’t paying attention to my speed going down the road,” said Maxine Morgan.

She was driving through Bossier Parish, headed to Shreveport.

“I was parked at Taylor’s Grocery looking for speeders heading west,” explained Bossier Parish Deputy Jackie Loveless. “When they came by, they were speeding.”

“I was paying attention to my driving,” said Morgan. “But my mind wasn’t there.”

Standard on all traffic stops, Deputy Loveless called in his location and Morgan’s license plate. But unique to his stops, Loveless says a quiet prayer before getting out of his patrol car.

After walking up to Morgan’s car, he began with pleasantries, pretty standard stuff for a standard traffic stop.

“He was very nice,” confirmed Morgan, although her mind wasn’t exactly on the side of that south Bossier highway.

Maxine was headed to the memorial for her daughter Daphne who had died just days before.

“It’s hard, very hard,” Morgan said, fighting back the tears. “It’s the hardest thing in the world to have to give up one of your kids.”

Moments after explaining to Deputy Loveless where she was headed, he suddenly reached inside her car and grab her hand and asked for the hand of her husband sitting in the passenger seat.

“I asked her, ‘Ma’am, do you mind if I pray with you?'” said Loveless.

Morgan and her husband didn’t hesitate.

“When the spirit of the Lord comes up to me to pray, I’m obedient to him and pray with that person,” explained Loveless.

“It just touched me so much,” remembered Morgan. “He took the time to pray with us.”
