CEO Tells Employees Who Agree With Trump’s Rhetoric to Resign

Grubhub’s CEO sent a company-wide email Wednesday telling employees who agree with President-elect Donald Trump’s rhetoric and behavior to resign, saying they “have no place” in the company.

“I absolutely reject the nationalist, anti-immigrant and hateful politics of Donald Trump and will work to shield our community from this movement as best as I can,” co-founder and CEO Matt Maloney wrote in the email provided to Fox News. The Hillary Clinton supporter affirmed the feelings of many of his employees who feel afraid or “personally exposed,” and said the company will “fight” for their dignity and right to make a better life in the country.

“If you do not agree with this statement then please reply to this email with your resignation because you have no place here,” Maloney added. “We do not tolerate hateful attitudes on our team.”

Twenty percent of Grubhub’s employees reportedly thanked him for sending the email, and he is not embarrassed by it, Maloney told Fox News.

Although Maloney made what he thought about the politics of the election clear, he purportedly respects the right of people to vote for whomever they want, and only wanted to “reassure” his employees that the company will support “diversity and inclusion.”

He ended the letter by repeating Clinton’s statement in her concession speech that Trump deserves a chance to lead, but said it’s important his employees never stop believing in “the fight for what’s right,” and urged them to “stay strong.”

Update: Maloney said his comments in the email are being “misconstrued” in a follow up blog post. “I did not ask anyone to resign if they voted for Trump,” he said. “I would never make such a demand. To the contrary, the message of the email is that we do not tolerate discriminatory activity or hateful commentary in the workplace, and that we will stand up for our employees.”
