California Continues to Put ICE Agents in Danger With New Law, Says Tom Homan

By Published on September 5, 2018

Former acting ICE director Tom Homan said Wednesday on Fox & Friends that California is putting the lives of immigration agents in danger by embracing radical political policies.

“It’s just a further deterioration of the very foundation of what this country was founded upon — is the foundation of law. I mean, the rule of law,” Homan said. “It needs to mean something.”

Homan was discussing a proposed law that would prevent ICE agents from making courthouse arrests of illegal immigrants in the state of California.

“California’s own state chief judge agreed with the [current arrest] policy. So here you got politicians that think they know better than judges and law enforcement officers on how to do their jobs,” Homan said.

“You’re talking about a criminal — same as the jails. A criminal walks out of a jail because they don’t call ICE. Look up recidivism rates,” he continued. “Over half re-offend the first year.”

Homan advocated for arresting criminals within the confines of the courthouse to give law enforcement an advantage and help prevent further incident.

“Why not arrest a criminal in the safety and security of a jail or courthouse, where they don’t have weapons? They get released to the street, which means we’re going to have to go to a neighborhood or place of employment — because we’re going to find them and we’re going to arrest them,” he said.

“The problem is it’s very dangerous for the officers and more dangerous for that alien.”
