Budget Impasse: Democrats Closed Down the Government 4 Times over Abortion

One day from now, fiscal year 2016 will begin. The final stretch of this fiscal year still requires significant action in order to avoid a funding lapse on October 1st.  Congress — the House and Senate — must pass a general appropriations bill, which then must receive a final nod from the President.  If there are any hiccups in that process, the government will partially shut down.

The odds of a partial shutdown have ranged from 75 percent, to a more recent estimate of 7 percent.  Though the chances of a shutdown may be up for debate, the cause isn’t — government funding of abortion.

After videos surfaced showing Planned Parenthood engaging in the sale of fetal body parts for profit, the abortion funding debate that has for decades lingered just under the surface of the national conversation is once again front and center.
