Gov. Bobby Jindal’s office said Thursday (Aug. 20) that he plans to counter a Planned Parenthood rally planned at the Governor’s Mansion by playing controversial videos produced by an anti-abortion group.

The videos Jindal’s office plans to play show Planned Parenthood officials discussing tissue donations from aborted fetuses that are used for medical research. The six videos have touched off a storm of controversy around the organization nationwide, but Jindal’s decision to launch an investigation into Planned Parenthood Gulf States and withdraw its Medicaid funding has made Louisiana among the states with the most forceful response.

Based on the news release from Jindal’s office, the governor’s administration has no qualms about confronting the organization — this time on the doorstep of the governor’s Baton Rouge home.

“Many Planned Parenthood supporters, including President Obama and members of the White House, said they have not or will not view the horrific Planned Parenthood videos,” Jindal’s office said in a statement. “Planned Parenthood has a right to protest today, but Governor Jindal’s office will ensure that anyone who shows up will have to witness first-hand the offensive actions of the organization they are supporting.”

Planned Parenthood has been on a nationwide media campaign to discredit the videos, saying they were deceptively edited and pointing out that the videos did not lead to a criminal investigation because tissue donation is not against the law.

Even so, the organization has acknowledged the tone of the organization’s staff discussing grisly procedures in the videos over lunch was inappropriate. Many elected officials have expressed shock at the procedures discussed, so playing those videos in the midst of a rally that is expected to call attention to the other women’s health services the organization provides is likely to be unwelcome to the organization’s supporters.
