A former Chicago police superintendent accused Black Lives Matter of contributing to the city’s raging gun violence.

Ex-police superintendent Garry McCarthy, speaking on The Cats Roundtable radio show Sunday, alleged that BLM contributes to a “state of lawlessness,” reports the New York Daily News.

“The simplest way to describe it is that we have created an environment where we have emboldened criminals and we are hamstringing the police,” he declared on the radio show.

McCarthy insisted that Black Lives Matter encourages people to not listen to police officers’ commands.

“It’s legitimizing that non-compliance,” he said, adding that the Chicago murder rate is directly affecting the black community.

“So what’s happening, and this is ironic, is that a movement with the goal of saving black lives at this point is getting black lives taken, because 80 percent of our murder victims here in Chicago are male blacks,” McCarthy went on.

Chicago’s murder rate in 2016 reached levels not seen in almost 20 years. The city closed 2016 with approximately 762 murders, an almost 50 percent increase from last year’s 496 murders.

“Chicago is probably the worst example of something that has happened across the country,” McCarthy said.

McCarthy was fired from the Chicago Police Department in 2015 after it was revealed the department kept dash cam footage from a police shooting under-wraps.

The dash camera footage showed police fatally shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times. For a year, officers had maintained that McDonald charged them with a knife; the video revealed a different story and showed the teenager walking away from officers.
