A black woman declared “all lives matter” after narrowly escaping a shooting that left a Washington police officer dead.

Kristi Croskey praised law enforcement as officers gathered outside a hospital to pay respect to their fallen comrade Wednesday night, reports KIRO 7.

Croskey thanked the Tacoma Police Department for being professional, despite one of their own being shot.

“I don’t want to hear anything about black lives matter, because all lives matter,” Croskey declared to reporters. “I don’t want to hear about the police officers being inhuman, shooting people or unnecessary or any of those things.”

Tacoma police responded to a call about domestic violence Wednesday afternoon after a woman approached animal control officers and told them her husband had locked her out of their house.

Officer Reginald Jake Gutierrez and his partner entered the home to try and reason with the man. Gutierrez walked up the stairs to try and talk with the man, but was fatally shot multiple times.

Croskey owned the house and was letting the couple stay there until she sold the place. She was there at the house to pick up some items. Locking herself in the bathroom, she managed to escape the shooting.

After a 12-hour-long standoff, the suspect was shot and killed. During the confrontation, the suspect grabbed two children, age 6 and 8, to use as shields, the police said.

Guiterrez was pronounced dead a few hours after being shot.

“And I want to say this situation did not have to occur, I want to say when you make poor choices, and the response is someone being killed, if that may be the situation at the end of this night,” Croskey said.
