An elderly Vietnam veteran was reportedly beaten Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla., by a black man who used racial slurs at the vet for expressing support for GOP presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Charlie Daniels, a 68-year-old Vietnam veteran and ardent Trump supporter, was having a conversation with the gas station clerk — whom he is familiar with — about the election, and when the clerk asked Daniels who he intended to vote for, Daniels said he was going to vote for the real estate tycoon and billionaire. Daniels then got into a heated dispute with another man who was right behind him in line, WJXT4 reports.

That man, described as being black, six feet tall and weighing anywhere from 210 to 230 pounds, then start swearing and throwing racial slurs at Daniels.

As soon as the two of them were outside near the gas station pumps, the man jumped at Daniels and punched him in the face. He also kicked Daniels before fleeing the scene in a Chevrolet Suburban.

Police officers said a review of video footage confirms the attack took place.

According to Daniels, this is how the conversation happened:

“He said, ‘Hey, I need to talk to you.’ I said, ‘Partner, I don’t want to talk to nobody. Look, that stuff is over with. I was just voicing an opinion. So were you,’ and I said, ‘Come on, let me get some gas,’” Daniels said. “He reached over, grabbed me by (the) arm, turned me around and came down with his left hand. (He) knocked me down, and when I hit the ground, he said, ‘What do you think about Trump now, you white mother (expletive)?’ And then he started kicking me.”

“I hope he goes to jail. I want him to make restitution for all my injuries and the pain I’m going through right now,” Daniels added. “I don’t see why it’s not a hate crime with all the words he was saying. It was all about me being a white man and supporting Trump. If that’s not hate, then I don’t know what is.”

Daniels suffered injuries to his face and broken bones. He also says he can’t move his wrist and has a hard time moving his fingers.
