Jeb Calls on His Mom? Barbara Bush Swipes at Trump in New Ad
Barbara Bush takes a swipe at Donald Trump in a new ad for her son Jeb Bush’s presidential campaign.
The former first lady says Jeb Bush wants to be president for the right reasons, unlike some other candidates in the field.
“Rather than talking about how popular they are or how great they are, he’s doing it because he sees a huge need and it’s not being filled by anybody,” Mrs. Bush says, likely referring to Trump, the GOP front-runner.
“Of all the people running, he seems to be the one who can solve the problems,” she adds. “I think he’ll be a great president.” As she speaks, the video shows footage of Jeb Bush campaigning.
She also praises her son for his “big heart,” and compliments him as a “good father” and hard worker.
The 30-second spot was released online Friday along with a handwritten note from Mrs. Bush.
In the letter, she touts her son’s fiscally conservative record as governor of Florida. “He cut taxes every year, balanced the budget, helped Florida create over one million jobs, improved Florida schools and tripled the number of charter schools,” Mrs. Bush writes in the letter obtained by The Hill. “Scores went up!”
The letter has already been sent out in Iowa and is headed shortly to New Hampshire and South Carolina.
