Angry Mom Chastises Son for Participating in Baltimore Riots

By Published on April 28, 2015

A large riot broke out Monday in Baltimore, following the funeral of a black man, Freddie Gray, who died in police custody. One mom was having none of it. Toya Grahamย was sitting at home watching TV reports of the riots when she spotted her son throwing objects at police officers on TV. Angered and embarrassed, she left the house and went over to the rioting to confront him. A news reporter from WMAR captured her on camera yelling and grabbing him, as he cowers and walks away. The video has gone viral.

Fox News contributor Charles Payne, who is black, is now calling Graham the “Mom of the year.” Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Watts says he wished there were more parents who took charge of their kids like that last night.

Here Graham talks to CBS News, telling the story of discovering her son throwing rocks and how she “just lost it.” “At the end of the day,” she said, “I don’t want him to be a Freddie Gray.”

Graham will be interviewed on “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” Tuesday night and “CBS This Morning” on Wednesday.
