ANALYSIS: Why Hillary Clinton’s College-Tuition Reform Plan Won’t Help Students

It’s pretty obvious when you think about it. Tuition costs have only really skyrocketed to insane levels since the federal government first started ramping up loans and grants in the 1970s.

Students and parents think they have government aid to “thank” for helping them afford college. In reality they have government aid to curse.

Without the financial aid, college would be a lot cheaper.

Since 1980, tuition at private colleges is up 800% and at state universities by 900%, according to College Board data. The growth in tuitions has outstripped inflation by a factor of three-to-four.

Colleges can only do that because their customers, the kids, have access to the money. The kids only have access to the money because they can get it from Uncle Sam.
