Trump Rips Social Media Efforts to Censor Conservatives

By The Stream Published on August 18, 2018

President Trump took to Twitter Saturday morning, taking social media giants to task for censoring conservative voices. “Too many voices are being silenced, some good some & some bad,” he said. “And that cannot be allowed to happen.”

He did not say what steps he will take to thwart Facebook, Twitter and Instagram censorship and shadow-banning.

The president’s tweets come hours after conservative talk show host Dennis Prager revealed Facebook is blocking his Prager U posts.

Conservative author and editor Elizabeth Kantor was deplatformed for tweeting against deplatforming. Fortunately the ban was quickly lifted after a public outcry. (Editor’s Note: Kantor edited The Politically Incorrect Guide to Immigration by Stream writers John Zmirak and Al Perrotta.)

This week also saw Twitter banning conservative gadfly Gavin McInnis and join in the efforts to completely silence conspiracy-minded radio host Alex Jones.

The President and Bill Maher Agree on Something?!

Even liberal cable TV host Bill Maher came out last night against the social media purging of Jones. Said Maher, “Alex Jones gets to speak.” He also blasted the liberals behind the social media bans.

“If you are a liberal, you are supposed to be for free speech,” Maher told his audience on HBO. “That’s free speech for the speech you hate. That’s what free speech means. We’re losing the thread of the concepts that are important to this country,”

President Trump put it this way, “Let everybody participate, good & bad, and we will all just have to figure it out!”
